The Central University of Orissa (CUO), Koraput was awarded as the “Emerging University of the Year in Tribal Areas” at the Study World Annual Excellency Awards organised by Study World, More Media Private limited, New Delhi on Saturday.
University Vice-Chancellor Prof Surabhi Banerjee received the award from Union Minister of State for Human Resource Development Shashi Tharoor.
The CUO was formed in 2009 under the Central Universities Act, 2009. The academic programme is shortly going to start in the 430-acre new campus of the university at Sunabeda. Courses in teacher education, education technology, healthcare and a school of law figure in the list of courses are to be introduced by the university in the academic session of 2013-2014.
The CUO will begin admissions this year to various courses under its newly-opened School of Education and Education Technology. The courses include Masters in Education Technology and one-year BEd and two-year MEd.
These programmes would offer students and teachers the opportunity to develop theoretical competence and critical insight for using ICTs in education appropriately, said Prof Surabhi Banerjee.
