A jawan posted at the CRPF camp in Padmapur of Bargarh district allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself dead with his service gun on Tuesday. The deceased was identified as Prasannajit Pal (27), a native of West Bengal.
Pal was on duty on a security tower from 10 pm on Monday. He was suspected to have shot self to death at around midnight.
Following the incident, he was shifted to the Padampur Sub-Divisional Hospital where he was declared dead. Later, the body was sent to the VIMSAR in Burla for postmortem.
Sources said that the Pal had joined the duty two days ago after returning from home in West Bengal. He is suspected to have killed self over some kind of dispute in family.
As per CRPF sources, the investigation into the incident was ongoing. The exact cause behind the suicide would be ascertained after the completion of the investigation.
Family members of the deceased have been informed about the incident, the sources said.
