The yeomen service by the 4th Battalion of CRPF, which has socially targeted the unprivileged tribals and other weaker sections of society of hinterland like Kalyan Singhpur block of Rayagada district and adjacent lanjigarh block of Kalahandi district in Niyamagiri hills range, has been highly appreciated.
Of late, these two blocks have witnessed the health system in a shambles. Mostly the women and children are affected. Several recent deaths due to common diseases like gastroenteritis, cholera, malaria and malnutrition, etc have taken away many precious lives. As many villages in these blocks are inaccessible, there are several cases where the pregnant mothers are carried on a ‘charpoy’ and then get succumbed to the severe pain. Pregnant mothers are seen to deliver baby on the way to local PHC. At this crucial juncture, 4th battalion CRPF has been organizing a series of health camps in these villages.
Recently a mega health camp was inaugurated by Manoj Sharma, Commandant, 4th Battalion, CRPF in non-descript Bijepur village situated under the foothills of undulated terrain. 25 km from the block headquarters, the health services were provided by CRPF at the doorstep of unprivileged communities. Free health check-up with free medicines were administered by the CRPF health personnel under the leadership of Medical Officer Dr M Debender. Around 600 persons, especially women and children, were treated from villages like Bijepur, Parahandipara, Bandili, Malijoba, Jalkrida, Barpadar and lakhabahali.
Sankar lal Meena, Assistant Commandant and Sub-inspector BR Mishra of 4th battalion supervised the entire activity. Sibani Majhi (Sarpanch Bijepur GP), Taran Majhi (Ward Member Bijepur GP), Police SI Subash Chandra Karkara (Station In-Charge of Bijepur) and other eminent persons of the area attended the camp and encouraged the people.
