A mutilated body of a 40-year- old man who was
attacked by a crocodile was retrieved from the Brahmani river on
Thursday.
The deceased Sibaprasad Behera, a resident of Nalapahi village under
the Aul police station was cleaning himself in the river when the
crocodile pounced upon him and dragged him into the mid water.
Locals fished out the body while it was floating on the river water and
informed police and forest personnel. Sibaprasad is survived by his
pregnant wife and three minor daughters. Locals demanded that the
authorities provide financial assistance to the family for its survival.
Notably, the crocodile menace has taken an alarming proportion in the
coastal Kendrapada district, especially in Rajnagar, Pattamundai,
Rajkanika, Aul and Mahakalapada blocks as crocodiles are now living in
the Brahmani, Kharasrota, Kani and Baitarani rivers in large numbers.
