An abject casual and insensitive face of the District Headquarters Hospital came to the fore when a motherless a two-day-old critical infant was referred to the SCB Medical College Hospital, Cuttack on Saturday without any pharmacist or attendant from Baleswar.
Although his father pleaded everyone here in the hospital to depute one pharmacist or attendant to accompany his serious son, who was travelling with oxygen mask, all that fell in deaf ears.
Finally, the hapless father taking all risks under severe traumatic condition took his son to Cuttack.
The CDMO while couldn’t be contacted, Chairman, Child Welfare Committee, Bhagirathi Barik said he has sought a report from the CDMO on the issue.
According to reports, Surendranath’s wife Sunita Baskey had a cesarean baby in a private nursing home in Soro on Thursday. After a few hours of delivery, she succumbed to post-surgery complications.
Sunita was a treasury officer at Udala while Surendranath is a bench clerk posted in Jaleswar court.
“After death of my wife, my son became serious and was admitted in the pediatric ward of the Baleswar DHH and when his condition deteriorated further, the doctor referred him to Cuttack. The hospital authorities, last night, had assured me that they would provide 108 ambulance and a pharmacist who would accompany. Yet on Saturday morning, no hospital staff was spared and I was compelled to move as the infant's condition was deteriorating fast. I and my sister-in-law took the baby in the ambulance. Near Soro when he had shown some breathing troubles, we took him to a private doctor there and got treated. I lost my wife and my son has been left in critical condition by the hospital here,” Hansda narrated his plights.
