'Criminals' saviour' Naveen must go: BJP

Protesting against the brutal killing of schoolteacher Itishree Pradhan and holding the ruling BJD and bureaucracy responsible for this, a BJP delegation, led by State president KV Singh Deo, on Monday submitted a memorandum to Governor SC Jamir.

The BJP leaders also held a demonstration before the Raj Bhavan demanding Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s resignation and CBI probe into the incident.

“The law and order situation in the State has totally collapsed and nobody feels safe and secured. The worst victims are the women and the Government has failed to ensure their safety,” said Singh Deo.

“Since the bureaucracy has been held responsible by Itishree and the CM is their saviour, he must face probe,” said senior BJP leader Biswa Bhusan Harichandan.

Party leader Bijay Mahapatra said, “As Itishree has named the CM in her dying declaration, he must quit his post first and cooperate with a CBI investigation.”

Flaying the Government for its failure in delivering justice to the women victims, the leaders said that it is most unfortunate for Odisha that after being harassed for months by the then SI Netrananda Dandasena, Itishree’s repeated appeal to everybody starting from Tikiri IIC to DI of Schools, district SP, Collector, DGP and CM for giving her protection fell on their deaf ears.

Urging the Governor to intervene in the matter, the BJP delegation said, “We request you to kindly issue directions to the Government to take action against all those who have not only failed to protect Itishree, but also facilitated the commission of crime by the perpetrators.”
