In a crackdown on habitual offenders in the district, police nabbed a notorious wanted criminal Kabuli Khan after an encounter under the Town police station area on Sunday night.
Sources said on a tip-off about the movement of Khan, a police team conducted a raid on Solapata-Darapada Road. Spotting the cops, Khan opened fire at them in a bid to escape from the spot. However, in self-defence police retaliated and Khan was hit by a police bullet on his right leg. Khan was rushed to Nayagarh DHH where his condition is stated to be out of danger. “Khan was involved in over 20 cases of murder, loot and dacoity pending against him at different police stations in Nayagarh, Boudh, Puri, and Khordha districts. He was on police radar since long over his link with gangster Hyder,” said Nayagarh SP Asish Singh. “Police seized a pistol and four live bullets from the possession of the arrested criminal,” added Singh.
