The Jeypore police arrested hardcore criminal SK Javed Akhtar after an encounter near Irrigation Colony in Jeypore town late on Thursday night.
A Jeypore Town police team, after receiving an input about the movement of Akhtar and his associates in the locality, rushed to the spot. Spotting the cops, Akhtar and his two associates opened fire at them. However, police fired back in retaliation and managed to nab Akhtar while his associates managed to escape.
Several criminal cases, including murder, are pending against Akhtar in the Jeypore police station. Besides, police sources claimed that Akhtar was involved in several kidnapping cases.
“Akhtar was one of the most-wanted criminals. He had once fled from the court too. The other two anti-socials managed to flee the spot even though we chased them,” said Jepore Town PS IIC Baleswar Gidhi. Police seized a country-made gun, two live bullets and a mobile phone from Akhtar’s possession.
