A dreaded criminal, Mohan Rao, was seriously injured during an encounter with police here in the wee hours on Saturday. Rao, who sustained bullet injuries on his legs, was admitted to the MKCG Medical College Hospital here. Besides Rao, two officials of the Sadar police were also injured during the exchange of fire between them and the criminal. According to reports, a team of police, during patrolling in the Jhadankuli area, found Rao at around 4 am. Rao, who was riding a bike, started firing at the police personnel to escape the spot. In retaliation, Inspector SS Mohapatra and SI Surjya Padhi opened fire at him and he fell off the bike.
Rao is involved in several crimes and 17 cases are pending against him at various police stations.
The police recovered a pistol and the Pulsar bike from his possession.
