Expressing serious concerns over the deteriorating law and order situation in Baleswar headquarters town, a joint forum of Baleswar has decided to observe a 12-hour bandh on June 16.
The decision was taken following a meeting on Thursday involving people from various walks of life . During the dawn- to -dusk strike, all the establishments in the district headquarters town would remain closed.
The meeting was presided over by secretary of Senior Citizen Forum Laxmidhar Behera while president Antaryami Pradhan and president Bar Association Manoj Nayak were present apart from leaders of various political parties, trade unions, merchant associations, voluntary organisations, cultural organisations, retired employees’ associations and leaders of youth and woman etc.
The speakers in chorus alleged that the law and order situation of Baleswar was in alarming state as murder, assault, snatching and loot incidents were on the rise and police had failed to curb the menace. Despite venting grievances several times before the police head, it yielded no result, they further alleged.
Meanwhile, expressing similar concerns over the law and order situation, the district BJP unit blaming the police administration, demanded transfer of the Superintendent of Police within a week. The party threatened to start a stir if the demand was not met.
