Crimes on rise in twin city: SP submits memo

Published on:

A five-member Samajwadi Party (SP) delegation led by its State president Rabi Behera on Wednesday submitted a memorandum to Additional Commissioner of Police PS Ransipe expressing concern over the spate of crimes in the twin city of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack.

The memorandum said one after another heinous crime is occurring in the two cities while the police have utterly failed to check them.

Robbery, dacoity, snatching, rape, murder and eve teasing besides crimes against the elderly people are rising. Community policing in the twin city has failed to provide safety and security to the life and property of the denizens, alleged Behera.

This is a grim reminder and challenge to the Commissionerate of Police (CP) and there is every possibility that such crimes may rise in future as the college and university elections and festive season like Dussehra are ahead, said the memorandum urging the CP to immediately convene meeting of all IICs of the twin city, arrest the warranties and expedite patrolling in every ward.

The SP said that the police- public interface which was introduced six years back should be activated and a people’s friendly action is needed for the safety and security of the citizens.

Among others, who were in the delegation were Subrat lenka, Pradeep Mishra, Arun Jena and Suryakanta Swain.
