Ahead of Diwali, a huge quantity of firecrackers were seized by police in different parts of the State on Friday.
In the first incident,police seized a truck-load of crackers near Mundamarai College in Dharakote area of Ganjam district. But driver of the truck escaped from the spot.A police official said market price of seized firecrackers is more than Rs 50 lakhs. Investigation into the matter is on to find out to which place firecrackers were being transported and who are involved into it.
In another incident, the Gajapati district administration on a tipoff, raided a tractor showroom in Rashipentha in Paralakhemundi where crackers were being sold in black. The local Tahsildar and police personnel raided tractor showroom and recovered huge quantity of firecrackers stored there.
