Briefing mediapersons here CPI(M) State senior member Dusmant Das said the party activists would hold demonstrations and Satyagraha in front of teshil offices and

district Collectorates to create public awareness in support of Universal Public Distribution System. This agitation would also be against cash transfer scheme of the Central Government in lieu of subsidies and against wrong agricultural policies.

“We have been demanding implementation of 35 kg of food grain at Rs2 per kg to every family in the country, besides urging the Government to ensure education for all. But neither the Central nor the State Government is taking any measures to sort out the basic issues of poor and downtrodden people,” said Das.

It was high time for the common mass to understand how people in power are playing with the lives and livelihoods of commoners, Das observed. The party continues to demand abolition of the Below Poverty line and Above Poverty line lists and introduce the UPDS in its place. “If the Government wants to really bring in food security for the common mass then it should provide 35 kilogram of food grain to every family at Rs2 per kg, he said.
