CPM seeks CBI probe into mining, house scams

To hold mass stir from Sept 5 to 15

The Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Thursday demanded a CBI inquiry into the large-scale mining and land and house scams in the State and slammed the Chief Minister for his silence over the scandals.

“The Chief Minister’s silence in the house and land scam is dubious. Why he does not make any statement while many of his senior party leaders and officers have taken houses and plots illegally,” questioned party State secretary Janardan Pati at a media conference here.

Pati said since many influential persons are involved in the scams, only a CBI inquiry can unearth the truth.

“In the chit fund scam, the Government in the name of Crime Branch probe was protecting the culprits. Similarly, the Government is trying to suppress the land and house allotment scam. We demand a CBI probe both in mining and land and house scams,” said Pati.

“The CPI(M) State committee has passed a resolution demanding adequate compensation to the flood victims, interest-free loan to flood-hit farmers and immediate fulfilment of vacant posts in colleges and schools and a CBI probe into the mining and land and house scam,” said Pati, adding that the party would take to streets from September 5 to 15 to press the Government to meet the demands. Pati also alleged that the State Government has completely failed to maintain law and order situation and transparent governance.

“On an average, the Chief Minister’s home district Ganjam is witnessing one murder in every three days while the administration instead of nabbing the culprits is protecting them,” alleged Pati.
