Expressing concern over the fast deteriorating law and order situation and rise in crimes in the State, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Friday organised a protest rally here and submitted memorandums to the Speaker and Home Secretary seeking immediate remedial measures. The protestors led by CPI(M) State secretary Janardan Pati proceeded to the Speaker's residence at the PMG Square shouting anti-Government slogans.
They submitted a six-point charter of demands and urged him to ensure Odisha as a State free from crimes.
"Our party observed April 5 as the protest day across the State against the rising crimes and Government's failure to check them. While crimes, mainly atrocities on women, have become a matter of daily concern, the attempts of the Government to curb them and ensure justice to the victims are from satisfactory," said Pati.
The protestors urged the Government to take initiatives to implement all the laws relating to crimes and antisocial activities in letter and spirit, open women and child desks at every police station, take steps to develop the socioeconomic conditions of poor and downtrodden people and issue FIR copy to the complaint soon after its lodging.
