CP asks cops to reach out to senior citizens

While everyone has been asked to remain indoors during the COVID-19 lockdown period in the State, Commissioner of Police (CP) Sudhanshu Sarangi in a videoconference on Sunday urged police personnel to reach out to the senior citizens and help them stay safe and sane.

All police stations using WhatsApp group for senior citizens created by Nodal Officers have been asked to share details of home delivery services for essentials like medicine, grocery, cooked food and vegetables.

Nodal Officers informed Sarangi that many senior citizens are requesting for domestic helps to be allowed at their places, but the housing societies they are living in are against it.

In view of expert advice that senior citizens are most vulnerable to the virus spread, it was decided to apprise senior citizens of the concerns and to take help of home delivery services to minimise difficulties.

The Nodal Officers were asked to interact with senior citizens registered with the police over phone and extend helping hand to them in case of need.

While the Field Officers informed their personal experience with the senior citizens and the way they have been helping them, Sarangi suggested that these good practices be documented.

Among others, Additional CP Sanjay Kumar Singh, Additional CP Bhubaneswar Anup Kumar Sahu, DCP Traffic Sagarika Nath and DCP Security Nirmal Kumar Satpathy were present.
