While coroavirus cases continued to rage in Ganjam district, the district administration on Wednesday sealed the border with Khordha and Nayagarh districts as a preventive measure.
The district authorities said that no person would be allowed to go to Bhubaneswar as the border has been sealed
Soon after the Ganjam-Khordha border was sealed in the morning, traffic jam was witnessed as vehicles queued up on both sides of the borders near the Gurapalli check-gate in Ganjam district. Emergency vehicles were also seen waiting for checking by police at the gate.
“People would be allowed inside and outside Ganjam district only if there is an emergency situation. In order to keep an eye on the movement of the people between the two districts, we have put up check-posts at seven places. Only essential travel will be allowed; others are being requested to go back,” informed Ganjam SP Brijesh Rai.
Only the persons having the permission of CDMO, SDMO, ADMO, and other senior officials would be allowed to travel between the two districts, he added.
The Khordha district administration also heightened security and began conducting vehicle checking near Kumarpari and Naval Chhak. It has engaged two Magistrates and four other officers to monitor the situation at the borders. Besides, one platoon of police force has been deployed at the entry and exit points between Ganjam and Khordha.
“As Covid-19 cases are rising in Ganjam district, we are not allowing any person from Ganjam to enter Khordha or Bhubaneswar,” said Khordha SP Ajay Pratap Swain.
DGP Abhay on the day visited Ganjam and took stock of the issues relating to Covid-19 norms enforcement and sealing of border.
Meanwhile, the East Coast Railway (ECoR) cancelled one pair of Bhubaneswar-Brahmapur-Bhubaneswar train and withdrew the stoppages of the concerned trains in Ganjam district. People can’t board or alight from trains passing through the district from Thursday till further orders.
The ECoR took this decision on the advice of the State Government.
