The Konark Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Court on Friday granted permission to police to take Delhi-based journalist Abhijit Iyer Mitra on a two-day remand over his alleged derogatory remarks against the Sun Temple and Odisha culture.

Earlier, the Konark Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Court had on Thursday rejected the bail plea of Mitra after the Konark police took him from the Jharpada jail in Bhubaneswar and produced him in the JMFC Court.

Mitra was later sent to the Nimapara Sub-Jail following the rejection of his bail plea. He will stay in the judicial custody till November 5.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Bhubaneswar SDJM Court had allowed the Konark police to take him on a four-day remand for interrogation.

On Wednesday, Mitra was arrested by the Bhubaneswar Commissionerate police in connection with a criminal case filed against him at the Saheed Nagar police station after he appeared before the House Committee headed by Leader of Opposition Narasingha Mishra over breach of privilege of legislators.
