Two couples who had eloped and gone underground managed to save them from honour killing after they married at AMOFOI on June 9 last.
Rojali Sasamal (20), daughter of Sailabala Sasamal and Nabakishore Sasamal of Krushna Nagar, Goilundi, Brahmapur and Sibani Behera (20), daughter of Sanjukta Behera and Patei Behera, of laxmi Bazar (Malha Sahi), Dhenkanal fled their houses fearing action against them by the hostile family members.
Rojali Sasamal eloped on May 19 last, while Sibani Behera did the same on June 4 last. The girls had to go underground with their respective lovers namely Satish Kumar Panda (27) son of Usharani Panda and lingaraj Pand, of Flat No - 202, Rajarani Apartment, Raghunathnagar, Brahmapur and Pintu Sethy (24), son of Abanti Sethy and Natabar Sethy of Jay Gopal Sahi, Dhenkanal.
The couples surfaced on June 9 and came to AMOFOI. The brides are from OBC Gopal community, while Rojalin’s lover is from Brahmin community, Sibani’s lover is from SC (Dhoba) community. AMOFOI secretary B Ramchandra CST Voltaire among others was present.
