The police on Saturday recovered the bullet-riddled bodies of a couple from the terrace of their house in Dharnimal village of Boden block in Nuapada district.

According to sources, unidentified miscreants shot Dhaneswar Kata and his wife Nirupama dead while they along with their two children were sleeping on their terrace.

Dhaneswar, who was working with the Nuapada police as a District Volunteer Force (DVF) personnel, had come to the village with his family to perform a social function called ‘Kunabera’ of his daughter on May 19.

“Both the wife and husband were shot at their heads. Two bullet covers were also seized,” said a senior police official. “We did not hear any sound of bullet,” said Dhaneswar’s brother and brother-in-law who were also sleeping on the terrace at a little distance. “We came to know about it in the morning” they said. “The incident might have happened as a result of family feud,” villagers suspected. Notably, this is the second incident of shooting in last two months in Nuapada district.

“last month, one Biru Agrawal of Sinapali village was shot by some miscreants at Sinapali. A very dangerous trend has begun in this area, which we had never seen in the past,” said Khariar MlA Hitesh Bagartti.
