A couple set themselves and their minor daughter ablaze on Saturday over some family feud. Getting information, police rescued the trio and rushed them to the Capital Hospital.
The injured couple was identified as Babuli Das and Janaki. They were residing at the Kapileswar Kenal bandh slum under the Lingaraj police station for the past few years. Sources said a quarrel ensued between the couple in the morning, following which they set themselves and also their four-year-old daughter on fire.
Locals spotted smoke emitting out of the house and suspected something fishy. The Lingaraj police reached the spot and rescued them all with the help of locals. They were immediately rushed to the Capital Hospital and later shifted to the SCB Medical College Hospital in Cuttack after their condition deteriorated. Doctors informed that the trio’s conditions were still critical as more than 50 per cent of their bodies have sustained burn injuries. While it was suspected that the couple set themselves and their daughter ablaze over some land dispute, the exact reason behind the incident was yet to be ascertained.
