In a heartrending incident, a newly-married couple was charred to death in the wee hours of Tuesday inside their house in Polasara town in Ganjam district.
The deceased were identified as Sanjay Behera (34) and his wife Priyanka Behera (30) of the Forest Colony of the town.According to reports, Sanjay got married to Priyanka six months ago. After few days of the marriage, Priyanka could know that her husband was unemployed. She started convincing Sanjay to search for a job so that they could settle well, but the latter didn’t pay any heed to her request.
Sources said they had altercation between them on Monday night over the issue. When the heated argument continued between them, the situation took a violent turn and Priyanka set herself on fire after pouring petrol on her body. Witnessing the violent move of her wife, Sanjay also did the same.
At 1am of Tuesday, neighbours noticed flames from the windows of the house and rushed to their rescue. They doused the fire and took the couple to nearby Polasara health centre and then shifted to the MKCG Medical College Hospital at Brahmapur for further treatment. The couple succumbed to their injuries at the hospital, said police sources.
