After denied justice in daughter’s missing case
Protesting police inaction in tracing the whereabouts of their missing daughter and arresting the prime accused who were behind the missing, a couple on Tuesday made an attempt to immolate self by pouring kerosene in front of district collectorate office here.
District Collector Pramod Kumar Das asked them to stop couple doing the act and invited them to his chamber to listen to their problems.
later, he asked the SP to do the needful. According to Pitambar Mallick of Tirohi village under Pattamundai police station, who along with his wife made an attempt to immolate self, his daughter Mamata had married Minaketan Mallick of Khandeipada village under Rajnagar police station in 2001.
As per the demands of her daughter’s in-laws, he had provided enough dowries. But later, the in-laws tortured her physically and mentally at regular intervals demanding more dowries. On December 19, 2013, the in-laws had telephoned him, asking to reach at their house as Mamata was sick.
When he reached at the spot, Minaketan and his brothers Madha, Dushasana and sister did not allow him to enter into the house and see his daughter.
later, Minaketan and his family members informed him that they had killed his daughter. Since then, he had failed to communicate with his daughter, said Pitambar.
Pitambar narrated that after lodging an FIR at the Rajnagar police station against the accused he had demanded stern action against the in-laws and requested the police to trace his missing daughter. However, the police did not pay any heed.
“later I umpteen times brought to the notice of the IIC of Rajnagar and SP of Kendrapara to provide justice by arresting the prime culprits and trace my daughter, but in vain.
As a result, I and my wife had decided to immolate ourselves,” added Pitambar, justifying as to why he was taking the extreme step. When contacted, SP Rabi Narayan Behera informed that the police have started an inquiry and promised action against the guilty.
