A two-day 7th convention of Jharsuguda Progressive Workers’ Union concluded at its office premises here on Thursday.

On Wednesday, social worker Prafulla Samantara joined as the chief guest while journalist Rabi Das attended as guest of honour. He said the workers’ community is the most neglected in the State.

The workers community plays a vital role in country’s development. While the role of the officers is limited to drawing of plans and programmes, the workers give the final shape to these projects. So, their role cannot be overlooked under any circumstances, he said.

Das said that although the Government has set up Workers Board, no steps are taken to develop the socio-economic status of the workers. More so, the labour Department has failed miserably in protecting the interest of the workers community.

State president of the union Golak Behari Nath presided over the function, while convenor Susama Sahoo, Jharkhand’s renowned social activist lakhi Das, Rakhyakar  Anupam and Dhubi Kisan were present. Workers from all parts of the State attended.

At the concluding session, convenor Rakhyakar Anupam said the local industries must employ the local jobless youths and reduce annual labour registration fees from Rs 50 to Rs 5. He said the cyclists should have a pathway along the main road in every township to facilitate smooth movement of workers.
