Counting of votes in Bar Council polls begins

Counting of votes in the Bar Council of Odisha elections held on November 21 and December 21 last began here on Monday. A team of experts from the State legislative Assembly are engaged in the counting of votes as voting in the Bar Council elections is held through a proportional representation by single transferrable vote.

“We always requisition the help of the experts in counting of votes as it involves a complicated process,” said the council secretary Jajati Keshari Samantsinghar, adding that the entire process of counting would run for a month or so.

It may be mentioned that for the 25-member council, polling was held across the State on November 21 last year. However when the advocates of the western Odisha boycotted the polls, a last chance was given to all lawyers of 11 districts of this region to exercise their franchise on December 21. A total of 94 candidates, including less than 10 candidates from western Odisha, were in the fray.
