Irate Councillors of the Balangir Municipality on Wednesday afternoon went on a rampage and ransacked the civic body’s office alleging collection of percentage for awarding contracts and other works.

Sources said the Councillors irrespective of party affiliations smashed furniture, glass panes and even the signage of the Executive Officer.

Earlier in the day, a meeting on the Prime Minister Awas Yojana was scheduled to be held in the morning. But the Councillors boycotted it and,. Instead, went to the residential office of the district Collector to apprise him about their allegations. But as the Collector was busy with some work, he did not spare time for them.
