Corporate support brings smile to face of K'jhar poor

Published on:

life was full of darkness for visually-challenged Sonia, a homeless resident of Dhobadiha in Keonjhar town. Her father Ashok Biswakarma had abandoned her since her childhood and her mother had been struggling hard to feed herself along with her.

The homeless mother-daughter pair could not draw sympathy of anyone until the district Collector was kind enough to include the family under the Mo Kudia Yojna. But the fund of Rs 70,000 was insufficient for them to construct a house.

The Thriveni Earthmovers, a mining business company, came forward to extend an additional support of Rs 1 lakh to the family which enabled them to afford a permanent pucca house for their shelter.

Similarly, another handicapped youth, Ratnakar Sahoo, a resident of Kiriburu, who was unable to afford an artificial limb, had approached the Collector for help. Finally, he was back on his feet after his damaged left leg was substituted by an artificial limb with the financial support of Thriveni recently. The company spent more than a lakh of rupees for the cause.

Besides helping needy persons and an old age home, more than a thousand underprivileged children and tribal youths are supported by this corporate for their education and livelihoods in Keonjhar district.
