Assistant Sub Inspector of Police [ASI] Sanatan Mallick hailing from Biswanathpur village under Raghunathpur block succumbed to coronavirus infection in a private hospital in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday.
The deceased cop was cremated in his village crematorium after being paid State honour adhering to Covid 19 guidelines on Tuesday.
Reports said that the deceased ASI Mallick was working in Begunia police station under Nayagarh district and had returned village recently. He suffered from illness and was admitted in the District Headquarters Hospital for treatment four days ago where he reported Covid 19 positive. Then he was shifted to a private hospital in Bhubaneswar for treatment but he died there on Tuesday.
A pall of gloom descended in the village on the demise of ASI Mallick. A host of personalities including MLAs Prasanta Muduli, Bijaya Shankar Das, Collector Saroj Kumar Mishra, many PR representatives and villagers from adjoining areas condoled untimely death of ASI Mallick.
The cops from Begunia police station and Jagatsinghpur headquarters also paid guard of honour to the deceased police man.
