The Brahmapur Press Club has expressed its serious concern over ignoring the working journalists, one of the important classes of corona warriors, at the time of distress.

The Ganjam district has witnessed an unprecedented surge in number of corona patients;  so also in the death toll and the district has figured as the hotspot and marked as red zone in the corona map of the State.

The journalists are currently working hard sacrificing their comfort amid high risk to them and their family members that goes unrewarded, lamented senior scribe Dr KC Panda.

In spite of such huge ordeal and risk, the journalists are being neglected and their genuine demands unfortunately remain unheeded by the Government, he pointed out.

The club demanded that the working journalists, an important class of Covid warriors needs to be treated equally at par with the police personnel, doctors and other health workers.

The State Government failed in its promise to release ex-gratia payment of Rs 15 lakh to the family members of late Priyadarshi Pattnaik (47), a Hinjilikatu based  journalist of a leading vernacular daily who  was affected by the Corona virus on duty and later succumbed at the KIIMs Covid Hospital at Bhubaneswar, senior scribe Sisir Panigrahi pointed out.

A delegation of the working journalists of Brahmapur Press Club met the RDC (Southern) and submitted a memorandum addressed to the Chief Minister recently.
