In what could be termed as a mockery of the sensational Institute of Medical Sciences and SUM Hospital (IMSSH) fire tragedy in which 31 persons were killed, the Commissionerate police instead of summoning the accused persons to the police station visited their offices for interrogating them.
Sources said the Khandagiri police quizzed hospital owner Manoj Ranjan Nayak’s wife Saswati Das and his sister Arati Ranjana Nayak, trustees of the Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan (SOA) Charitable Trust on Sunday night in connection with the fire mishap that had occurred on October 17.
On Sunday night, the Khandagiri police went to the trust office here and interfrogated both, the sources added.
During the questioning, Saswati and Arati denied their responsibility in the fire mishap, saying that they are not directly involved in the operation of the hospital and that the hospital is functioning as per UGC guidelines.
Notably, the Orissa High Court had granted anticipatory bail to both the trustees on November 24.
Earlier, the police had summoned the duo thrice to record their statements in connection with the fire mishap. Since they failed to appear, the police questioned the two in their trust office.
