Sundargarh police are yet to nab the accused in some major cases of crime.

Even if two and a half months have passed to the rescue of Kolkata-based businessman and his driver from the clutch of some kidnappers in Sundargarh, the police have not yet been able to arrest the accused, including the kingpin, in the kidnapping case. Notably, they have been at large ever since. The police are now conducting search operation at different places to nab the absconders.

Pratik Patodia (31), director of Ashok Multiyarn Mills limited (AMMl), located at Kirei, Sundargarh and his driver Rohit Tanty, had allegedly been kidnapped from Badbahal area on SH 10 on July 22. The staff of AMMl had lodged a preliminary complaint at Bhasma police station of Sundargarh, following which police along with a scientific team had visited the spot and started an investigation. On July 22 evening,

AMMl personnel manager Indra Bahadur Singh had lodged another complaint in police station, wherein he had suspected involvement of one Anil Bansal of Kantabanjhi area in Balangir district, who also owns a company named as Om Organic Private limited (OOPl). Sources said AMMl had business link with OOPl and there were some business conflicts last year. On July 26, driver Rohit had managed to escape from the clutch of the kidnappers and had boarded a train to Jharsuguda from Titilagarh station. The police had got the information following which Rohit was rescued at Jharsuguda station during wee hours on July 27. later, with aid of Rohit, the police had rescued Pratik from Tikiripara area under Saintala police station, when he was being shifted to another location in a two wheeler. One Mukund Nag, was nabbed on the spot and later, the police had arrested another accused, identified as Sidhartha Kamble. But five other accused, including prime accused Anil Bansal, had absconded. The police had confirmed that as many as seven persons were involved in the case out of which two had been arrested.

In another case, a youth of Sundargarh has been missing for the last two months and his family members, who are apprehensive that he might have been killed, had met Sundargarh Superintendent of Police Nikhil Kanoria recently for a probe into the incident and to locate him.

The family members in their complaint accused four persons in the missing and suspected murder of the youth. Dipak Oram (24), a resident of Junadih village under Sadar police station on August 12 had gone to Abanikela village to bring a new boat. Gati Tiga, Basant Naik, Uner Kujur and Fakir Tiga of same village had accompanied him. On August 13, the four people had returned back with a new boat, while they had no clue about Dipak.

The Sadar police after registering a murder case had interrogated the four suspected. Police had started searching Dipak, but have not yet been able to locate him. Sundargarh police had formed a two- member team to locate Dipak and also informed all the IICs of the police stations till Hirakud about Dipak’s missing and had told them to inform if Dipak is located. But when Sundargarh police did not get any information about Dipak from any source, Sundargarh police recently had conducted polygraph test of Basant Naik, Uner Kujur and Fakir Tiga at Bhubaneswar. But since Gati Tiga has been hiding, his polygraph test could not be done. Police are now searching him.

In another case, in a broad daylight loot on September 24, five armed miscreants made away with about Rs15 lakh from the Sundargarh Branch of the Indian Bank at Sundargarh. The miscreants had also looted away gold ornaments and the CCTV recorder from the bank. Even if one year has passed, the police are yet get any breakthrough and nab the miscreants who had looted the bank.

According to sources, a team of police from Sundargarh had gone to Gaya in Bihar recently to interrogate some suspects involved in the loot. “We are working hard to get breakthrough in all these cases,” said Sundargarh SDPO PK Mohanty.
