The Sahadevkhunta Police rescued a 50-year-old man who had been abducted from Baleswar town for ransom on Thursday evening. Gopinath Sahu of Mirzapur, Balaramgadi, had been kidnapped by a gangster group, which demanded Rs 1 lakh from his family for his release. Police raided the designated cash transaction spot near FM Golai in this connection.
After nabbing the main accused Bansidhar Sethi (32) took three other persons, including a woman, into custody. They are Srikanta Mallick, Shantilata Mallick and Basanta Mallick, who are siblings. The arrested persons would be forwarded to court after interrogation,” said Sahadevkhunta PS IIC Paresh Rout. The accused had abducted Gopinath at around 6 pm on Thursday and called his son Papun to arrange Rs 1 lakh for his release at around 10 pm.
Papun told the abductors that he was able to arrange only about Rs 30,000 to Rs 40,000. Subsequently, the miscreants asked him to come with the money along with a plain paper and revenue stamp near FM Golai on Friday morning. Plainclothes policemen initially caught the main accused Sethi from the spot.
The police suspect the abduction was committed due to reasons of business and other family matters. “After interrogation, the exact reason would be known,” said IIC Rout.
