A special police team led by DSP Manoj Kumar Mohanty accompanied by a magistrate on Wednesday raided the Alipingala Sub-Jail, six km from here, and seized two mobile phones, five SIM cards, mobile chargers, intoxicants like ganja, bidi and matchboxes from the possession of some inmates.
Report said that the raid was conducted in the wake of complaints that some inmates, including under-trial prisoners, at the jail are giving threat calls to contractors and using electronic gadgets such as mobile phones and SIM cards as well as consuming intoxicants.
Ironically, the jail authorities are doing nothing to curb the unlawful activities and some jail personnel are helping the offenders, it was alleged. District Superintendent of Police Sudha Singh acted promptly and sent the special team to the jail.
