Police on Friday resorted to a lathicharge to disperse hundreds of agitating Gram Rozgar Sevaks, who tried to break the barricade to march towards the State Assembly protesting the indifferent attitude of the State Government towards their demands.

While more than 100 protestors were detained by the police, many other sustained injuries in the incident. The Gram Rozgar Sevaks took to the streets under the banner of the banner of Nikhil Odisha Gram Rozgar Sevak Sangh (NOGRSS) demanding regularisation of their jobs.

Shouting anti-Government slogans, the protestors marched towards the State Assembly from Master Canteen. At the last barricade heated words was exchanged between the GRS members and police personnel and was followed by a scuffle.

The police personnel rained lathis to disperse the mob to bring the situation under control, who had laid siege to the main road for more than a hour. However one of the protestors said “We have been demanding job regularisation and other minimum facilities since long, but our pleas have fallen on deaf ears.”
