The Nimapara police's inaction in a highway loot incident has raised eyebrows here. In spite of CCTV footage made available to police, cops have washed their hands off the incident by merely registering a case only. As a result, the NH near Nimapara has become a soft target of a racket with people feeling unsafe to move, carrying money and gold with them. Sources said that loot incidents are on the rise along Nimapara-Pipili NH. The latest case pertains to one Dilip Patnaik, a veterinary medicine trader, who was looted of over Rs 1 lakh on August 6 near Bombay hotel at Khelar. While Patnaik was buying sweets from a shop, an unknown youth suddenly came in a bike with a pillion rider and snatched his cash bag hanging on his motorcycle. The bag contained cash of Rs 1,01,300. The incident took place, when Patanik was returning to Khelar from Nimapara after collecting cash. After an FIR by Patnaik, the police had come to spot and made investigations. To easily trace out the two bike-borne looters, a CCTV footage from a nearby shop was also provided. The CCTV footage clearly showed faces of two bike borne youths and registration number of motorcycle they used for crime. However, Police have not yet got any clues of miscreants.
