Cop atrocity: OHRC seeks report from DCP

The Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC) has directed the Bhubaneswar Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) to submit a report over the forcible entry of Mancheswar police station officials along with anti-socials in the house of one Pramila Rath on August 14 midnight last year in the city.

The commission acting on a complaint filed by rights activist Sangita Swain on September 29 directed the DCP to conduct a thorough inquiry into the matter and to submit a report within four weeks.

According to the petition, on August 14 last year at 12.15 am, Mancheswar police station IIC Bharat Sahu along with some police officials and local anti-socials had entered into the house of Pramila at Koradakanta village in the Jharpada area under Saheed Nagar police station limits by breaking open the iron grill and door of her house and searched for Rasmiranjan Rath saying that a warrant is pending against him.

“Though the victim Pramila on the very next day lodged complaint at Saheed Nagar police station the I1C did not register the case. When Pramila enquired about the warrant from Mancheswar police station she came to know that there is no such warrant pending for execution against Rasmiranjan Rath,” alleged the petitioner.

Alleging arbitrary use of power on the part of the Mancheswar police and inaction of Saheed Nagar police, the petitioner had sought the intervention of the commission to ensure justice to the victim and stringent legal action against the responsible police officials.
