Cooperative staffs’ body threatens stir

The Odisha Cooperative Employees’ Mahamancha, Bhubaneswar has threatened to cease work and lock all the cooperative societies and LAMPS in the State to protest against the hasty implementation of new cadre rules and various irregularities in the cooperative banks.

The association alleged that the interest subvention money sanctioned for the cooperative societies and LAMPS by the Chief Minister has been embezzled by the Central Cooperative Banks in the districts without the knowledge of senior Cooperation Department officials and the cooperative societies.

Besides, during repayment of loans, the cooperative banks are charging high interest, due to which it is affecting the cooperative agencies and LAMPs. This has triggered widespread resentment among the cooperative society and LAMP employees as well as elected members.  Besides, the directions of the Registrar of Cooperative Societies are being violated over the years.

If the association’s agitation affects the farmers and depositors, the Government and senior department officials would be responsible, said the Mahamancha.
