Hundreds of contractors from across the State on Monday staged a dharna in front of the Idco Tower here by locking its main gate in protest against the apathetic attitude of the authorities towards them.

Due to the protest normal work at the Idco office was disrupted.

The contractors under the banner of the Odisha Contractors’ Association demanded timely release of funds and no dillydallying on giving final nod to their final bills after execution of the work orders.

Notably, a special class contractor, Gajendra Nath Das, frustrated over the lackadaisical attitude of the Idco authorities in paying his outstanding bill to the tune of over Rs 1 crore, jumped to death from the Idco Tower on October 21.

It was alleged that he was not allowed to meet the Idco CMD to air his grievances.

Meanwhile, the Commissionerate Police have started inquiring into the case after the family of the deceased contractor registered a case at the Sahid Nagar police station.

The contractor, hailing from Kujang in Jagatsinghpur district, was residing in Sarala Nagar in laxmisagar area here.

The deceased had undertaken construction works of Navodaya Vidyalayas at Rahama, Konark and Nandankanan five to six years back. But he had not received his outstanding dues for the projects.
