In yet another instance of deteriorating law and order situation in the district, a contractor was shot dead by two miscreants in broad daylight the market at Pahadpadar village under Lanjigarh block in Kalahandi district on Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Rajendra Sahoo, a resident of Pahadpadar village.
The miscreants fled from the spot before anybody could react. The incident took place at a crowded village market while Rajendra was buying vegetables. Though the motive behind the crime was yet to be ascertained it was suspected that the incident was fallout of old enmity.
On receiving information, police reached the spot and recovered the body. A probe was initiated into the incident and police were on the lookout for the culprits.
