The Odisha Government Contractual Employees’ Association held a massive rally in the city on Wednesday in protest against the apathetic attitude of the Government in regularising the employees working in various departments on contractual basis.
Thousands of contractual workers coming from different districts gathered at the Gandhi Marg here on Monday and heard a ultimatum to the Government to do away with the contractual system of appointment and regularise them at the earliest or else remain ready to face dire consequences.
“The State Government has been implementing welfare schemes worth crores of rupees but is getting them implemented with help of contractual workers. It has defied the Supreme Court’s direction of ‘equal pay for equal work’ and exploited us a lot. If our demands are not met soon, the Government will be responsible for the consequences,” said Odisha Karmachari Sangram Samiti president Madhu Mallick.
Among others, association president Bijay Kumar Malla, vice-president Kshitish Kumar Panda, secretary Biswamohan Samal, Rajat Ranjan Rout, Pradyumna Kumar Nayak and Satyabrat Barik spoke.
