Even as police are yet to make much headway in the Khordha firing incident, which claimed life of a medicine shop owner and left a paediatrician doctor seriously injured, district SP Ajay Pratap Swain on Tuesday said involvement of a contract killer is suspected in the incident.
“We suspect that a contract killer was hired to eliminate paediatrician Manas Das, who was critically injured in the firing. Probe is underway to ascertain the motive behind the attack,” the SP said.
As many as four police teams have been formed to apprehend the accused, the SP said, adding that the murderer would be arrested soon. The condition of the paediatrician, who is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar, is now stable, he said.
A police team is in Ganjam trying out ascertaining if any contract killer from that district was engaged to bump off the doctor. The attack on the doctor and the medicine shop owner is believed to be carried out by a professional.
The family of the doctor has ruled out personal enmity as the reason behind the attack. Police are investigating into all the angles, including property feud and professional rivalry, to find out the motive, said sources. Notably, an unidentified masked miscreant had fired multiple rounds at Dr Manas Das and medicine shop owner Krushnachandra Sahu from close range at the doctor’s clinic here on Sunday.
