Construction of Model Schools in pattern of Central Schools is yet to be completed by the deadline set by the Government in the State.
While the Government set a target to begin classes in the Model Schools from the next academic year, the contractors are allegedly delaying the construction work due to untimely payments from the authorities.
As per the Government’s decision, the Model Schools in pattern of Central Schools will be set up in each block to impart quality education.
In this regard, the Government has constituted a Model School Organisation and appointed a senior administrator as its director. The Government has decided to complete construction of 100 Model Schools by the 2016-17 academic year, for which it has provided 5-20 acres of land in each block.
However, the project is incomplete by the deadline as the Government is delaying payments to the contractors, who have spent around Rs57 crore so far.
Notably, the Government aims to set up a total of 162 Model Schools, out of which various corporate agencies have agreed to undertake construction of 65 schools.
Apart from the delay in the construction work, the Government is in dilemma over appointment of teachers, especially under the ST/SC categories as per the recruitment rule. Though the next academic session will begin after two months, the recruitment process is yet to begin.
While the Government is appointing retired officers for the administrative work of the Model Schools, retired teachers have also expressed their interest for teaching in the schools.
