A police constable was arrested on Tuesday in Bhadrak district for allegedly ditching a woman colleague after having a physical relationship on the guise of marrying her.
Sources said accused Jagatpati Hansdah was in a relationship with the woman constable for more than six years and kept physical relations on the pretext of marriage.
But he recently refused to marry her, following which the victim approached the Bhadrak SP over the matter. Though the SP tried to settle the matter amicably, Hansdah stuck to his stand of no marriage to the woman.
The woman lodged a complaint in this regard at the Bhadrak Town police station, on the basis of which a case has been registered under Sections 376 (1), 493, 312 and 506 of the IPC.
