'Consider Kalpana's request for DSP post'

Published on:

leader of Opposition in the State Assembly Narasingha Mishra has suggested to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to consider the first Odia Everest climber Kalpana Dash’s request for a DSP post favourably and give boost to such courageous mountaineers of the State.

Mishra sent a petition of Dash to the Chief Minister along with his letter.

“Kalapana is the first Odia Everest climber and mountaineer of more than seven other peaks. She has requested for her appointment as Deputy Superintendent of Police in the Odisha Police Service. She has cited the case of Haryana DSP Mamta Saud who scaled Africa’s Killimanjaro and earlier Mount Everest and was appointed as a DSP by the Government of Haryana. To give boost to such courageous mountain climbers, please consider the request of Dash favourably,” Mishra wrote.

According to sources, the Odisha Sports Policy doesn’t accept mountaineers as sportsmen as mountain climbing has not been defined as a sports activity in it.  Kalpana, in her petition, has requested the Government to take the mountain climbing as a sports activity as it involves athletic practices only.

Notably, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik appointed weightlifter K Ravi Kumar as a DSP in the State police on Thursday.
