The Koraput Congress has announced to organise a Krushak Samavesh at Phulabad here on March 2, informed former Koraput MlA Tara Prasad Bahinipati at a Press conference on Friday.
The main objective behind organising the samavesh is to highlight various problems faced by the farmers and the State Government’s failure in protecting their interest, Bahinipati told. Bahinipati also informed that, 89.2 per cent people of the district depend on agriculture for their livelihood. But most of the farmers are now suffering and facing difficulties due to the anti- farmer policies of the State Government. “The State Government has completely failed in checking black marketing of seeds and fertilizer.
The farmers also incur losses due to damage of crops as the administration is not releasing water into canals in time,” Bahinipati said. Top leaders of the party including PCC president Jaydev Jena, AICC general secretary and party in-charge for Odisha BK Hariprasad, Subhankar Sarkar and Nabarangapur MP Pradeep Majhi are scheduled to attend the programme. About 20,000 farmers are expected to attend the meeting. The AICC and PCC leaders will first visit Malkangiri and address the samavesh there at 9.30 am. Then they will arrive at Jaypore by 12 noon and leave for Rayagada at 1.30 pm where similar samavesh also will be organised, Bahinipati said.
