After the Biju Mahila Janata Dal on Friday, the State Mahila Congress on Saturday took to the streets and staged a demonstration in front of the Raj Bhavan here against the Central Government’s decision to withdraw lPG subsidy and hike the price of lPG cylinders by Rs 4.
State Mahila Congress president Sasmita Behera, who led the agitators, said to mediapersons that the Central Government should immediately roll back its decision; otherwise, the Congress would intensify its agitation in all the district and blocks of the State. “We will submit a memorandum to the Governor regarding the issue,” she added.
Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Prasad Harichandan, who was also present during the demonstration, said the lPG price hike is a conspiracy. During the last three years, the lPG cylinder prices have been hiked 22 times even though the price of crude oil has come down from 102 Dollars to 52 Dollars in the international market.
The irate protestors also burnt and defaced posters of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan during the agitation.
