Congress to support March 7 Keonjhar Bandh

Pradesh Congress Committee president Jayadev Jena on Wednesday said the Congress would extend strong support to the March 7 Keonjhar Bandh call, given by various organisations in protest against the State Government’s apathy towards the Keonjhar people’s demand for a medical college.

“Keonjhar, which contributes maximum amount of revenue to the State exchequer, has once again been ignored by the State Government. The Congress will never tolerate the step-motherly attitude of the Government to Keonjhar,” said Jena in a Press release.

Notably, the Centre recently approved the State’s proposal for setting up of four medical colleges with 100 seats, one each at Baleswar, Koraput, Mayurbhanj and Balangir, under the 12th Five Year Plan. Of these, two colleges (Baleswar and Mayurbhanj) would come up at a distance of 50 kilometers. But it is unjustified that the Keonjhar’s demand has been left in the lurch, Jena alleged.
