The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) held an emergency meeting here on Friday under the chairmanship of PCC president Jayadev Jena on the devastating Phailin and the resultant floods in the State.

It was decided to put off till November 6 the party’s civil disobedience movement that was to be staged on October 28 in all blocks and urban local bodies in protest against the failure of the BJD Government in every respect.

Jena requested the party’s rank and file to take care of the people affected by the twin natural disasters and ensure smooth distribution of relief materials in their respective areas.  Further, he urged party men to remain vigilant against the BJD workers involved in looting of relief materials.

A relief committee was formed under the chairmanship of former Minister Kishore Chandra Patel with party vice-President Sarat Rout, Gurupada Nanda, Samir Routary and general secretary Kishore Jena being in the monitoring committee.

On behalf of the PCC, a memorandum would also be given to the Governor on the alleged irregularities, discrepancies and mismanagements in the ongoing relief distribution work, Jena said.
