On a day when the ruling BJD chanted its old theme song of “Central negligence” urging the President of India to direct the Centre to allot funds for carrying out restoration works in the calamity-hit areas, the Congress resorted to a civil disobedience movement in all blocks and municipalities in protest against the failure of the State Government in providing relief to the affected people.
The Congress also raised the issue of Itishree Pradhan and cases of atrocities against women during the movement.“The BJD Government, which is falsely claiming to have evacuated nine lakh people before the Phailin hit the State on October 12 night, has failed to provide relief to the victims. Besides, its 13-year misrule has resulted in Odisha being leveled the least developed State in the country. It has also failed to ensure law and order, which is reflected in the rising cases of atrocities against women,” said Subhankar Sarkar, secretary in-charge, Odisha Congress.
