Congress leaders ransack police station in Cuttack

Protesting against the arrest of a Congress worker, party leaders led by City Congress chief Md Moqim on Tuesday ransacked the Purighat police station here and staged a dharna blocking the Ring Road in front of the police station by burning tyres.

While Moqim claimed that the police station was not ransacked, City DCP Akhileswar Singh warned that appropriate actions shall be taken against those who damaged the national property and manhandled the policemen in the police station.

The faceoff between police and the Congress began

when police on Monday night arrested Bijay Barik of Telenga Bazar. Police claim that Barik was arrested as an NBW was pending against him. But Moqim maintains that it was vendetta.
